Students must include full payment of tuition and fees with their registration forms. Registration forms will be returned to students who do not include an acceptable form of payment. The Extension School offers no installment or deferred-payment plan. Please review the following acceptable forms of payment:
Payment Methods
-
Cash. Cash payments will be accepted in person at the Student Financial Services Office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Students should not send cash through the mail.
-
Checks. Certified checks, travelers checks, cashiers checks, money orders, and personal checks made payable to Harvard Extension School will be accepted. Checks must be drawn on a US bank and include proper routing numbers. The Extension School will not accept third-party checks, postdated checks, or checks that have been altered in any way.
-
Credit cards. MasterCard, VISA, American Express, or Discover payments are accepted if the card number, expiration date, cardholder's printed name, and cardholder's signature are included on the registration form. Registration forms may be returned unprocessed to students if the information submitted is incomplete or the credit card payment is declined for any reason. The Extension School is not responsible for fluctuations in international exchange rates or interest charges due to the timing of credit card processing.
-
Interbank wire. Wire payments to the following account:
BankBoston, 100 Federal Street, Boston, MA 02110
HUDCE
Account number 00172448

Student name
Student ID number (when available)
*On this line of the wire address, students must
indicate which of the following available wire
services they have used:
Telex: 4996527BOSTONBSN
ABA: 011000390
SWIFT: FNBBUS33
Students should be aware that banks require extra time to process wires. For this reason, students should wire funds more than seven days before registration deadlines.
-
Company billings. Many Boston-area employers provide tuition assistance plans for eligible employees. Extension School students may arrange to have their tuition billed directly to their employers if their employers have an established account with the Division of Continuing Education. These students must include with their registration forms letters from their employers confirming their eligibility for the company's tuition benefit.
Students are responsible for their Extension School bills if their companies have not made payment on their accounts by the invoice due date.
-
Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP). Harvard University staff members who are on the regular payroll and have worked at least 17.5 hours per week since July 1 for fall courses and November 1 for spring courses are eligible for the University's Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP). To register for Extension School courses using the TAP benefit, eligible students must submit completed TAP forms and TAP fees with their Extension School registration forms. TAP fees are nonrefundable. Because original documents are required, students may not submit TAP registrations by fax. Students who register for graduate credit using TAP also must include appropriate graduate tax forms with their registration and TAP forms. Students with questions about their eligibility for TAP should call the TAP Office at (617) 495-9679.
Nonnegotiable items. Students must pay with negotiable checks or valid credit cards. If tuition payments are returned unpaid by banks or credit card companies, students will be withdrawn immediately from their courses. They may be reinstated only by submitting a new registration form with complete payment before the registration deadline, and only if space remains available in the course. Students who are withdrawn from their course(s) due to nonpayment remain responsible for all tuition and fees in accordance with the Extension School withdrawal and refund schedule.
Students whose checks are returned unpaid by the bank may not use personal checks for Division of Continuing Education payments for one year. Students who stop payment on checks or credit cards lose the privilege entirely; all future payments must be made in cash, or by bank check, travelers check, or money order.
Stopping payment on checks or credit cards is not a valid method of withdrawing from classes. For withdrawal procedures see Changes and Withdrawals. Students who present Harvard Extension School with a nonnegotiable check are assessed a $25 charge per returned check.
Financial delinquency. Students registering for the Extension School must be in good financial standing with both Harvard Extension School and Harvard Summer School. Any outstanding balance must be cleared before a student will be allowed to register or receive an official transcript. The Extension School will credit any new tuition payments that students submit toward outstanding balances. Degree and certificate candidates must be in good financial standing with the Division of Continuing Education and Harvard University in order to receive their diplomas and certificates. The Extension School reserves the right to withdraw students from their classes due to financial delinquency. In such cases, students are responsible for all tuition and fees.
Payment certifications. To request a payment certification students must be paid in full, submit their request to Student Financial Services in writing after the end of late registration, and allow at least two weeks for processing. Certifications may be issued to third parties for students who include their signed authorizations and the recipient's address.
